Epitaph of Stanislas Bechi in Florence

In the church of Santa Croce in Florence, there is a plaque commemorating Stanislaus Bechi, a major in the Italian army, chief of the Wloclawek district and a participant in the January Uprising. The epitaph consists of a dark stone relief framed in an architectural and sculptural frame of white marble. The relief is a multifaceted representation of the execution of Stanislav Bechi. In 1863, during the uprising, Bechi was captured by the Russians and sentenced to death. The work was created between 1881 and 1882 by Teofil Lenartowicz.
