Memorial to the campus for Polish children and their carers in Pahiatua

In New Zealand, in the small village of Pahiatua, there is a memorial to the campus created during the Second World War for 733 Polish children and their 105 guardians. Many of them lost their families to deportation deep into the USSR between 1940 and 1941. Thanks to Stalin's 'amnesty', they were evacuated with the Anders Army and found refuge in various parts of the world. The campus in Pahiatua was called "Little Poland" in the 1940s and today a monument located nearby bears the same name.
