Sculpture depicting Arthur Rubinstein at the United Nations in New York

At the United Nations headquarters in New York, there is a sculpture depicting Artur Rubinstein. The author of the bronze work is Karol Badyna. The work was donated to the UN in 2003 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz. The realisation symbolically commemorates the inaugural concert of the UN in 1945. Poland, being one of the founding countries, did not attend the inauguration ceremony due to disagreements over government representation. As a result, the Polish flag was missing. This was noticed by Artur Rubinstein, who spontaneously changed the repertoire and played the 'Dabrowski Mazurka'.

The Polonica Institute does not currently have the rights to reproduce a photograph of the building - you are welcome to view a photograph of it available online https://www.un.org/ungifts/pianist
