Chapel of the Poniński family

Uroczysko Czerwone | Ukraine
ukr. Uroczyszcze Czerwone (Урочище Червоне); dawna nazwa: Czerwonogród
A free-standing building located on a north-south axis, of brick, in regular blocks of local red sandstone, originally plastered inside and out. Set on a rectangular plan, originally with a Doric four-column portico to the front with tympanum and statue. It sits on a high plinth and was originally covered by a gable roof. The exterior of the chapel is surrounded by a cornice and the walls are decorated with rustication. The central part of the façade is splinted. On the axis, a rectangular entrance opening framed with moulding in white sandstone. Semicircular skylight above the opening. The corners of the building may have originally been accentuated with pilasters. The side walls at the level of the nave are pierced with two symmetrically placed window openings of semicircular shape and at the level of the sacristy one of rectangular shape closed with flattened arch. The rear elevation is chisalitised, with a door opening on the axis leading to the sacristy. Above it is a semicircular skylight. Inside, the articulation of the walls is not preserved. The interior is divided into a nave and a sacristy. In the altar wall, remains of the doorway leading to the sacristy, from which there was an exit to the outside. Next to the sacristy there are two small annexes, from which it was probably possible to access the attic. At the entrance to the chapel you can see a descent into the crypt, where there are the remains of coffins, including a child's coffin.

Comments on the state of preservation and visible restoration:
The chapel is in a state of far-reaching disrepair. The vaults are missing, the interior is overgrown with bushes. Fragments of columns from the façade scattered around. In front of the entrance lie fragments of the statue of Christ with the cross, which until 1945 was located located on top. According to Frankowski's description of 1831, framed by 24 columns in the Doric style. Cf. Frankowski 1831, p. 125. According to Frankowski, the chapel was crowned with a sculpture representing faith and hope. Cf. Frankowski 1831, p. 125. cf. also the archive photo in: Schwartz 1931, p. 53. This probably refers to the statue later identified as the figure of the Risen Christ.
