Near the village of Pieski, on the left side of the road from Dyneburg to Demene, several Polish soldiers killed in the autumn of 1919 in the fighting against the Bolsheviks were buried. In the interwar period, a cross without an inscription stood at their resting place. The names of the fallen soldiers have not been established. After the war their graves were devastated - the place was turned into a sand pit. By the road, low in a meadow near the burial place, in 1997 the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites erected a two-metre-high reinforced concrete Legion Cross, modelled on the crosses placed on the graves of soldiers killed in the Polish-Bolshevik War. The cross is set on a low pedestal, with aggregate spread at its feet, framed by a kerb painted white. A section of the approach just before the cross is paved with cobblestones. On the cross, at the intersection of the arms, there is a black stone plaque with an inscription in Polish and Latvian: "The grave of Polish soldiers killed in 1919-1920 for the independence of Latvia". The restoration of the cross and the arrangement of its base was carried out in 2019.
