Biography:

Jan Henryk Dąbrowski (1755-1818), born in Pierzchowo, son of Jan Dąbrowski and Zofia von Lettow, general. He began his military career in 1771. In 1780, he began his service in the electoral guard in Dresden. From 1792 he served in the Polish army. On 14 July 1792 he was promoted to vice-brigadier. He became famous during the Kościuszko Uprising for his defence of Warsaw. He was appointed to the rank of lieutenant-general. He was the founder of the Polish Legions in Italy. In 1803, he became inspector-general of the Italian cavalry. In 1806, he established the Polish Army. He died in 1818 of pneumonia.
