Ladislaus III Varna (1424-1444), the Krakow-born son of Ladislaus II Jagiello and Zofia Holszanska. King of Poland. Crowned on 25 July 1434. At the time of his accession to the throne he was 10 years old. As a result, he was ruled on his behalf for several years by the Guardian Council and the regent, who was Cardinal Zbigniew Oleśnicki. The king ended the Polish-Teutonic war. In 1440, he was elected king of Hungary. He died at the Battle of Varna, during the war with Turkey.
