Cemetery in Mielnica

Mielnica | Ukraine
ukr. Melʹnycia (Мельниця)

The cemetery in Mielnica is located on the right side of the road to Hołoby, outside the village. It was probably established in the early 19th century, as the oldest gravestone described by Zbigniew Hauser dates to 1834. It is a cast-iron tombstone of a child Zygmunt Skorupski. The other tombstones also date from the last quarter of the 19th century. None of the 5 tombstones mentioned by the author have survived in their entirety, and the entire cemetery is overgrown with dense vegetation. In the centre of the cemetery there is a ruined cemetery chapel and nearby there are two rock tombstones, one of which is magnificent but unnamed, the other not so magnificent was erected to Celestyn Zakaszewski who died in 1875.

Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
