Biography:

Marian Konieczny (1930-2017), born in Jasionowo, son of Stanislaw and Stefania. He came from a peasant family. Between 1948 and 1954 he belonged to the Union of Polish Youth. He studied sculpture with Xawery Dunikowski, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Then, between 1954 and 1958, he studied at the I.E. Repin Institute at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. In 1958 he returned to Krakow, where he began working at the academy. He was its rector from 1972 to 1981. The artist created many famous sculptures, including the Monument to the Heroes of Warsaw (1964) and the Monument to the Revolutionary Deed in Rzeszów (1974). He created the monument to Frederic Chopin, which is located in Hamamatsu, Japan. He has been awarded numerous prizes.
