Cemetery in Dziembrów

Church cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Documentation has been made for the cemetery (6 cards stored in the MKDNiS). Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).

As Lewkowski and Walczak write: "The church cemetery lies on a flat area, surrounded by buildings, fenced with a stone wall with an entrance from the west. Seven gravestones from the 19th century, mostly made of cast iron, have been preserved in the church cemetery. "The oldest gravestone, from 1839, crowns the grave of Julia Winczowa. It is in the shape of a slab (today overturned) with a rounded top edge. The inscription "D. O. M. / JULII Z ŁĘKIEWICZÓW / WINCZOWEY / ZMARŁEY 25.8.1839 R. / AGED (...)9(...)". Noteworthy is the gravestone of Antoni Wróblewski. It is a "cast-iron stele (...) on a cuboidal base, topped with a cornice with an Ionic kymation and an acanthus frieze. The inscription: 'THIS MEMORY IS DESIGNATED BY THE BROKEN / IN CONFUSED Grief of THE WIFE AND CHILDREN / AFTER THE DEATH OF THE BEST MAN AND FATHER / ANTONIE WRÓBLEWSKI / BIRTH 1796. / DIED 1857 7 MAY".

The second cemetery is a Catholic cemetery still active today and is located on the western edge of Dziembrow. Citing the researchers already mentioned: "It is fenced with a metal mesh with an entrance from the southern side, it covers an area of 0.6 ha. The cemetery is rectangular in plan, without division into plots and alleys. It is dominated by contemporary burials from the 1st half of the 20th century. A few tombstones from the end of the 19th century have been preserved. The oldest preserved tombstone is a cast-iron pedestal on a grave of Józef Witko from 1892. (The inscription on the gravestone of Józef Witko reads: "JÓZEF WITKO / LIVED 72 / Died. 8 DECEMBER 1892".
