The painting is located in the church of St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, which is the Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. A plaque in front of the church states that the icon, after being restored by the Polish painter Leopold Nowotny, was given to the Redemptorists in 1866 by Pope Pius IX. A year later, during a procession with the image, a miracle of healing of a child took place, so that the image began to be venerated and the church became a shrine.
