Biography:

Agaton Giller (1831–1887), born in Opatówek, son of Jan Kanty Giller and Franciszka (née Szpadkowska), journalist , writer and independence activist. In his youth, he was exiled to Siberia for his patriotic activities, where he spent time in Irkutsk, amongst other places.

Upon his return to Poland, he became involved in underground activities and, during the January Uprising, was a member and one of the leaders of the National Government. After the fall of the uprising, he was active in exile, helping to establish, amongst other things, the Polish National Museum in Rapperswil and Polish diaspora organisations.
