Julian Cybulski's architecture beyond contemporary Polish borders

He is one of the most talented architects of Lviv at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Moreover, it is thanks to him, among others, that the architectural landscape of the former capital of Galicia is truly impressive today. Julian Cybulski helped to erect many buildings in the city's historicist style, and was also inspired by Art Nouveau. Which projects came from his hand and which ones are worth seeing for yourself?

Julian Cybulski (1859-1924) was a Polish architect , who tied his professional career to Lviv . Born in Łańcut, he went on to gain valuable knowledge at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Lviv Polytechnic . After completing his education he served an apprenticeship in the architectural office of Wincenty Rawski.

In 1885, the architect received permission to carry out construction work and, more or less from then on, he worked together with Ludwik Baldwin-Ramult . Together he supervised the construction of the post office building in Lviv , based on a project by Sylvester Hawryszkiewicz. The two architects also supervised the reconstruction of the Potocki Palace in the same city.

Julian Cybulski also contributed to the construction of the building that is now the seat of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv , which is a monument representing historicism itself, with neo-Mannerist elements intertwining with neo-Baroque ones.

Julian Cybulski also worked on the project of the George Hotel , which dominated the size of other leisure facilities in Lviv at the end of the century. This building was built in a historicist style , while its façade was decorated with neo-baroque and neo-renaissance details . The architect created Art Nouveau ornaments that graced its interiors.

What other buildings can be found in the architect's oeuvre? Certainly, the Neo-Renaissance building of the National Bank , the villa O. Wicksell in Stepan Rudansky Street, and the building of the French oil company "Premier " . Also noteworthy is the Cybulski House itself , in which one can see the fascination with the French Baroque, as well as the Neo-Baroque building at 43 Franka Street.
