The Ust camp (known as the Schachtlager in German as the mine camp) was one of six sub-camps in the Borovichi collective camp complex no. 270, established by the NKVD in 1941. It was located a few kilometres south of Borovichi, in an area of five coal mines. The camp was also known as a shacht camp. The first transports of Poles to this camp were directed from mid-February 1945 from the camps in Jogle and Szybotow. Also in the second half of that year further groups of Poles were transferred here from these camps (the last group from Jogle arrived in October 1945). In total, at least 2,000 interned Poles passed through the Ustie camp.

The cemetery of this sub-camp was established in October 1944. The deceased prisoners were buried in mass graves. In early 1946 the cemetery was divided into plots of 25 graves each, its fence was reinforced and the graves were marked. There is no information about the date of closure of the cemetery or to whom the cemetery was handed over for further supervision.

A total of 410 people were buried in 117 graves, including 182 Germans, 23 Austrians, 183 Poles, 16 Hungarians, 1 Finnish, 2 Estonians and 3 people of undetermined nationality.

The cemetery is located in the area of the village of Ustje (Ust'-Brynkino) on a hill situated about 80 m from the railway line connecting the Lenugol Mine Management with the mine No. 102. It occupies an area of about 1 ha and is divided into 5 plots, each with 25 individual and mass graves.

In September 1994, as part of a ceremony in Borovichi, the burial place of Poles was permanently marked with a cross and a boulder with a Polish inscription. Then, in August 2002, from the foundation of the Council for the Protection of Remembrance of Struggle and Martyrdom, a metal cross was set up with a granite plaque lying at its foot, situated on a foundation of stones. The inscription (in Polish and Russian) reads: "To the memory of Poles / soldiers of the Home Army / imprisoned in 1944-1947 / died in NKVD-MVD camps No. 270 / buried in this cemetery / Compatriots 2002".

Near the Polish commemoration there is a Hungarian memorial sign.
