Family cemetery of the owners of the manor house in Jaszuny

On the territory of Jaszun, near the Baliński Palace, there is a family cemetery established in 1830 by the owners of the estate. Among those buried here are Jan Śniadecki - the rector of Vilnius University, astronomer, mathematician and philosopher - Michal Balinski, historian and publicist, and Jan Balinski, professor of psychiatry in St Petersburg.

The palace in Jashūnai is a classicist residence built in 1824-1828 according to a design by Karol Podczaszynski. In the first half of the 19th century, Jashuny was an important centre of intellectual and artistic life in the Vilnius region. The palace is surrounded by a vast park, in which - according to tradition - Juliusz Słowacki planted a birch tree, and today one of the clearings bears his name.
