Cemetery in Lanovce

The Catholic cemetery in Lanovce extended on the hillside above the lake behind the parish church, which now serves as a community centre. Today, the cemetery is heavily devastated, but what remains suggests a higher artistic level of the monuments erected in this cemetery. Zbigniew Hauser lists eight gravestones. The preserved fragments show ornaments in the form of skull and tibia, garlands, draperies, acroterions, sculptural forms of open books with inscriptions. Unfortunately, most of the inscriptions are illegible or the plates with inscriptions have been torn out. As the author of the description of the cemetery Zbigniew Hauser supposes, they could have been on military gravestones. The only certain date from the inscriptions is 1925.
