Biography:

Ferdynand Ruszczyc (1870-1936), born in Bohdanowo, son of Edward and Alwina (née Munch), painter, graphic artist, draughtsman, stage designer and pedagogue. Between 1892 and 1897 he studied painting at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg. He made many study trips, including to the Crimea, France, Germany, Italy and Sweden. In 1899, the first exhibition of his works was held in Vilnius. From 1904 he was a professor at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts. Then from 1907 he headed the chair of landscape at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. From 1919, he held the position of dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius, and in 1935, from the hands of President Ignacy Mościcki, he was awarded the title of honorary professor.
