Biography:

Xawery Dunikowski (1875-1964) was a Polish artist, sculptor and educator associated with France. After studying at the Technical School in Warsaw and the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in the atelier of Alfred Daun and Konstanty Laszczka, he took up the position of professor at the School of Fine Arts. He was in an informal relationship with his student, the sculptor Sara Lipska. During the First World War, he served in the Foreign Legion in France. He stayed in Paris until 1922, where, among other things, he created works for the famous 'king of barbers and hairdresser of kings' - Antoine Cierplikowski, as well as the design for the 'Tomb of Boleslaw Smialy'. In his art, he drew on the experiences of expressionism, antiquity, classicism and, in later years, socialist realism. During World War II, he was sent to Auschwitz. After the war, he devoted himself to official art and his teaching career.
