The grave of interned Sgt. Andrzej Paruch in the local cemetery

From 1938 until the end of the Second World War, Veľká Čalomija (Hungarian name: Nagycsalomja) belonged to Hungary. From 1939 to 1944 it was an internment camp for Poles, who were placed in the local barracks. The cemetery preserves the grave of Sgt. Andrzej Paruch from the KOP battalion "Dukla", who died in July 1940. It is an earth grave with a vertical stone tombstone topped with a cross. The inscription on the tombstone reads: S.P. / PARUCH / ANDRZEJ / RIFLEMAN. KOP DUKLA / 21.XI.1914 / 16.VI.1940 / LENGYEL KATONA [Polish soldier].
