On 21.10.1915, an all-day battle took place near Jablonka Wielka between the Russian and Austro-Hungarian armies, with the participation of the Polish Legions (1st Brigade under Lt. Col. Edward Rydz-Śmigły and 3rd Brigade under Col. Wiktor Grzesicki). This battle was a fragment of the battle of Czartoryski. The offensive of the Polish legionaries resulted in driving the Russians out of the village of Jablonka Wielka.
The fighting resulted in the deaths of an undetermined number of Polish soldiers. At least three of them - Marian Stankiewicz and two unknown by name - were buried in the village cemetery in Jablonka Wielka.
The grave was found by scouts from the Lodz ZHP Scouting Group, after which it was taken care of in 2021-2024 and renovated as part of a task co-financed by the 'Places of National Remembrance Abroad' programme of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. It is now an earthen grave with a wooden cross, surrounded by a double wooden fence.
