In the Michelstadt cemetery in quarter no. 8, in a common grave marked Abt.29 (Abt.8, Grab nr. 29), seven Polish airmen are buried - the crew of Lancaster I BH-G (LL855) from the 300th Bomb Squadron "Ziemia Mazowiecka", which was shot down by a German fighter jet during a raid on Karlsruhe on the night of 24-25.04.1944. In 1947, the "Wolyn" Sentry Company No. 4230, stationed in occupied Germany, erected a red sandstone monument on the grave of the fallen. Thanks to the commitment of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Cologne, in 2019 the city authorities restored the commemoration at their own expense, authenticated the inscriptions, corrected the gilded crown in the emblem and made additional greenery arrangements around the monument.
