Graves of World War II victims murdered in the village of Góże

During the winter of 1941/1942, there were conflicts in the village of Góże between the local population and the Germans stationed in Pożejmiana and guarding the railway. At the end of February 1942, a German train was blown up in the section between Podbrodzie and Pažešiai. In retaliation, a detachment of German soldiers and Lithuanian policemen came to the village of Góże and shot four people: Piotr Anoszko, Stefania Kulewicz, Józef Witkiewicz and Wacław Żejmo. These people were buried in the cemetery in Powiewiórka.
During the inspection of the necropolis in Powiewiórka conducted in September 2025 by an employee of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, only 2 graves of the victims from Góża were found: Wacław Żejmo and Piotr Anoszko. They are located deep in the cemetery, near the grave of Father Tomasz Woliński.
The grave of W. Żejmo - an earth grave with a small concrete slab at the head, to which a plaque with the inscription is attached: "The late / Waclaw Żejmo / born 1910 / died a / tragic death 1942 / family / immersed / in sorrow".
The grave of P. Anoszka - is located to the left of Żejmo's grave, the cross itself is preserved with a metal plaque with the inscription: "The late P. / Anoszko / Piotr / died a tragic death / [...] 28 February 1942 / peace to his soul".
At the crossroads in the village of Góże, there is a memorial to the Poles who were murdered here or disappeared without news during World War II. The villagers and the owners of the summer houses contributed to the memorial cross.
