Graves of victims of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA)

Gucin was a Polish colony with about 35 Polish families, i.e. about 170 people. Several Ukrainian and mixed families also lived here.

In 1943, the Poles living in the colony did not organise self-defence, and the local Ukrainians reassured them that they were not threatened by anything. However, on 11.07.1943 a large Ukrainian militia attacked the colony at dawn. The Poles were taken to the smithy and the barn, the buildings bolted and set on fire. A few men managed to escape, but most died in the flames. The Poles' property was looted and the houses were demolished and taken away. It is estimated that about 140 people died here - residents of Gucin and Myszów.

The bodies of the murdered were buried in three mass graves, now located in the kolkhoz fields.

In 1996, through the efforts of the Association for the Commemoration of Poles Murdered in Volhynia, a tall metal cross was erected on one of the graves, to which a plaque with the inscription was attached: "To 140 Poles / residents of Gucin / who died in 1943 / For eternal memory / Compatriots".

In 2008 and 2011, members of the Association carried out repair and renovation work on this commemoration.
