Graves of Poles from the educational labour camp (AEL) and the transit camp in Großbeeren

gmina Großbeeren, Brandenburgia, Germany

Approximately 1,300 victims of the Second World War were buried on the site of the former gravel pit and in the nearby cemetery: prisoners of the educational labour camp (AEL) and the transit camp under the Gestapo in Großbeeren. The first 200 dead were buried against the wall of the cemetery, where their grave quarters are today, while others were buried in mass graves in a trench on the site of the former gravel pit, where the Memorial to the Victims of Fascism is today located. A total of 355 names of Polish citizens who were laid to rest in Großbeeren have been established.

In 2020-2021, the Polish-German Reconciliation Foundation, as part of a task supported by the Ministerial Programme "Sites of National Remembrance Abroad", compiled the data of the buried persons and made it available, together with a description of the cemetery, on the website of the project "Polish memorials and war graves in Germany": https://polskiegroby.pl/cmentarz.php?jez=pl&cmentarzok=1517&miejsceok=1348&landok=4.
