Graves of soldiers of the Polish Army in France (the so-called Blue Army) in the local cemetery

On 27.06.1917, the French military camp at Sillé-le-Guillaume (in the department of Sarthe) named "Petit Bonheur" (A Bit of Luck) was handed over to the Polish Army in France (the so-called "Blue Army"), which was formed on 4.06.1917. Polish Army in France (the so-called Blue Army) - a military training camp was located here. It soon became apparent that this camp was too small for the Polish volunteers who were applying, and it was expanded; training camps for the Polish Army were also established in other towns in the department. In February 1918 alone, 10,000 Poles passed through the camp at Sillé-le-Guillaume.

In the military quarters in the local cemetery, 12 Poles who died between 2.10.1918 and 30.04.1919 are buried next to French soldiers. Most of them died in the temporary hospital No. 7 bis in Sillé-le-Guillaume. On the three rows of graves in this quarter stand simple crosses with the names of the soldiers. Four Polish graves are in the first row, with eight Poles resting in the second row. Above the plot rises a monument with the names of French soldiers who died in military hospitals, there are also graves of French soldiers in the vicinity, whose gravestones were put up by local families, and a mass grave of 14 soldiers - Senegalese executed by the Germans in June 1940.

The names of 10 Poles who died in Sillé-le-Guillame also feature on a memorial plaque in the local church funded by comrades-in-arms.
