Biography:

Jan Kazimierz Denhoff (1649-1697), born in Warsaw, son of Teodor Denhoff and Catherine Françoise von Bessen, Catholic clergyman, cardinal, bishop of Cesena, canon of Warsaw and Cracow, commendatory abbot of Mogila. He was resident of the Republic in the Church State from 1682 to 1686.

In his youth he was educated at the Jesuit College in Pułtusk. During the reign of Jan III Sobieski, he represented Poland in the Holy See. After the victory at Vienna (1683), he presented Pope Innocent XI with the banner of Muhammad, which hung in the Basilica of St John Lateran.

In 1686 he became a cardinal presbyter, assuming the titular church of San Giovanni a Porta Latina. He was butler of the College of Cardinals from 1695 to 1696, resigning from the Diocese of Cesena just before his death.
