Biography:

Jan Chryzostom Redler (18th century), sculptor. He was one of the leading rococo sculptors active in Warsaw and Podlasie. He probably came from Silesia or southern Germany. He specialised in stone sculpture, creating mainly works with mythological and allegorical themes.

Redler worked on the decoration of many important magnate residences, including the Branicki Palace in Warsaw, the Czartoryski Palace in Puławy and the Potocki Palace in Radzyń Podlaski. Commissioned by Hetman Jan Klemens Branicki, for more than twenty years he realised the sculptural decorations of the palace in Białystok, creating, among others, monumental sculptures of Hercules. His works also decorated the Royal Łazienki, Wilanów and the Brühl and Primate palaces in Warsaw.

The artist collaborated with King Stanisław August Poniatowski, making interior decorations for the Ujazdowski Castle and the Royal Castle. He worked many times with the architect Jakub Fontana, who was the author of the designs for many of his sculptures.
