Biography:

Janina Kraupe-Świderska (1921-2016), born in Sosnowiec, painter and graphic artist. In 1938, she enrolled at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where she studied in the atelier of Paweł Dadlez. After the outbreak of World War II, she continued her education under Fryderyk Pautsch at the Staatliche Kunstgewerbeschule Krakau, from which she graduated in 1941. From 1942, she was involved for a year in the underground theatre run by Tadeusz Kantor. After the war she returned to the academy, where she studied with Eugeniusz Eibisch and Wacław Taranczewski. At the same time, she was a student at the graphic design department, where Andrzej Jurkiewicz and Konrad Srzednicki taught. In 1947, she graduated from the Faculty of Painting (receiving her diploma in 1955), and a year later she completed her graphic design studies. From 1957 she was associated with the Cracow Group and also with the Oneiron Group, active in Katowice. In 1980 she was awarded the title of associate professor and seven years later full professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.
