Józef Charyton (1909-1975), born in Krupice, painter and social activist. He had no formal artistic education, but studied for some time at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In 1938, he prepared the decoration of the crypt of the parish church in Wołczyn, where the remains of King Stanisław August Poniatowski were buried. His commitment to restoring the king's due memory inspired Marian Brandys, who described it in his book The Guardian of the King's Tomb.

During World War II, he witnessed the extermination of Jews in the ghetto in Vysoky Litewski. After the war, he devoted himself to painting, creating a series of paintings and drawings documenting the life of Jewish communities in pre-war Poland and the drama of their extermination.
