Biography:

Józef Kotkowski (1843-1914), born in Dzierzkowice, son of Marceli and Tekla Fijałkowska, participant in the January Rising, engineer. During the battle of Fajsławice, he was wounded in the right thigh. After the fall of the uprising, he emigrated to France. There, between 1864 and 1867, he attended the École Supérieure Polonaise in Montparnasse, and between 1867 and 1868 he studied at the École Impériale des Mines. On his return to Galicia, he settled in Buczacz and later served as district engineer in Stryj and Tarnobrzeg. In the last years of his life, he worked as an engineer at the Land Department in Lviv
