The quarters of Polish Army officers murdered by the Soviets in September 1939.

After the victorious battle of Shatsk on 28/29.09.1939, the wagons of the "Polesie" brigade of the Border Protection Corps stopped for the night in a forest east of the village of Mielniki. The Poles were attacked by the Soviets and after a short exchange of fire laid down their weapons. According to a witness to these events, Andriy Pasternak, the Polish officers were first brought to the building of a wealthy farmer, where they were interrogated and only later (perhaps on the second day) brought out and shot. Apparently one of the officers managed to get out of the death pit after some time, but the torturers beat him and threw him back into the pit. The pit was buried by local people. who robbed the wounded and dead soldiers of more valuable items, including shoes and clothing. In September 2002, the grave was exhumed by order of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Remembrance. The remains of 18 men were placed in individual coffins and ceremonially buried in the local Orthodox cemetery. A wooden cross brought from Poland and a temporary plaque with an inscription in Polish were placed on the grave: "Here rests 18 Polish Army officers murdered on 29 September 1939 by the Soviets". This was the first commemoration in the newly created quarters. In 2014, the bodies of 8 Poles - 7 soldiers and 1 policeman - who had been exhumed near Szack on behalf of the OPWiM Council, were ceremonially buried in the cemetery. The recovered remains remained unnamed. The permanent installation of the cemetery was funded by the OPWiM Council in 2014-2015. The site is located near the entrance to the cemetery, on the right-hand side, and is enclosed by a metal fence placed on a stone foundation. The crosses in the quarters (both the name cross and the main cross) are made of light granite. The inscription on the main cross: "Here rest the soldiers of the Polish Army from the group of the Border Protection Corps of Brig. Gen. Wilhelm Orlicek-Ruckemann, which in the fierce battle for Szack on 28 September 1939 defeated the Soviet troops. The officers and non-commissioned officers taken prisoner in the night battles died at the hands of the Soviets in Mielniki on 29 September 1939. Poland remembers them". A small metal cross was placed behind the main commemoration and the existing inscription plaque (from 2002) was placed on it. On the individual crosses the established names of the soldiers were engraved.
