Biography:

Leon Stempowski (1794-1855) - Polish-born marshal of the Uszyce district, participant in the November Uprising in Podolia, emigrant from 1832, member of the committee of the Confederation of the Polish Nation, co-founder of the Society for the National Education of Polish Children, co-founder and originator of Polish mass graves in Paris. He was originally buried in the cemetery at Batignolles. In 1856, his coffin was moved to Montmartre Cemetery.
