Biography:

Leon Jan Wyczółkowski h. Ślepowron (1852-1936), born in Huta Miastkowska, painter, graphic artist and draughtsman. Between 1869 and 1871 he studied at the Warsaw Drawing Class under Antoni Kamieński and Rafał Hadziewicz, and between 1872 and 1873 under Wojciech Gerson. Between 1875 and 1877 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, in the studio of the painter Alexander Wagner. On his return to Poland, between 1877 and 1879, he studied under Jan Matejko at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In 1895 he settled in Krakow, where he became a lecturer at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts. He was one of the founding members of the Society of Polish Artists "Sztuka".
