Biography:

Maksym Epstein (1883-1934), born in Warsaw, son of Mojżesz Menachem Epstein and Szajna Frejda Tzemelińska, Polish socialist activist, Siberian exile, later emigrant to France.

After emigrating to France, he worked as a salesman (représentant de commerce). In 1927, he obtained French citizenship by decree of 2 March (No. 2964-27).

On 16 December 1925 in Paris, he married Charlotte Émilienne Marie Cotillard (1896-1954), daughter of Louis Cotillard and Marie Louise Leroy. The marriage ended in divorce in 1932, with a daughter, Jelena Karadjordjević, born of this union.

He died on 17 March 1934 at his home at 20 rue Littre in Paris. His funeral took place on 20 March 1934, and he was originally buried in Père-Lachaise cemetery, then transferred to Batignolles cemetery and later again to Père-Lachaise.

His obituaries appeared in Le Populaire, Le Matin and L'Œuvre. They were signed by his sister Wanda Epstein and her family, and his brothers Alexander, Henry, James and Ignatius.
