Tombstone of Alexandra Wołowska and Leon Faucher

On a slightly stepped pedestal a thick gabled slab with a coffin-shaped jardiniere on lion's feet at the foot, a tall broken column at the head on a gabled pedestal on a plinth and attic base, a small cross engraved on the column, an inscription below (1) and a wreath of oak leaves with sashes. Inscription also on higher pedestal below column (2).

Leon Faucher, born on 3 September 1803, French journalist, economist and politician. He was MP for the Marne from 1847 to 1851, as well as Minister of Public Works in 1848 and Minister of the Interior from 1848 to 1849. In 1851 he was de facto head of government. He was a member of the Institute (Académie des sciences morales et politiques) and was awarded the Commandery of the Legion of Honour (Lipkowski, p. 203; ZKwBP French hourglass). Faucher was also the originator of the chair of Slavic literatures at the Collège de France and entrusted it to Adam Mickiewicz. In 1837, he married Alexandrine Wołowska, daughter of Louis Wołowski and Laure Guérin. The wedding took place on 18 July 1837 (ZKwBP klepsydra franc.). He died on 14 December 1854 in Marseille at the age of 51. He was buried on 19 December 1854, after a funeral service at the Church de la Trinité, rue de Clichy. Among those who attended the burial were: Leon Faucher's widow, his children, Jules Faucher (French consul in Riga), Anne Faucher (nun under the name Alix), Tekla Wołowska (widow of Louis Wołowski), Dr Thuilier and his wife, Miss Céline Thuilier, Ludwik Wołowski and wife, Kazimierz Wołowski and wife, Félix Wołowski and wife, Misses Hedwige and Françoise Wołowski and other family members and friends (ZKwBP hourglass franc.; BXXCz syg. 6982 vol. 2, p. 491).

In 2008, the tombstone was restored through the efforts of the TOZ with funds from the Zygmunt Zaleski Foundation (ATOZ); measurement drawing, 3 projections, scale 1:20, made by B. Kłosowicz , nd. [2008] (ATOZ); Documentation of conservation works carried out at the Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris, Grave of Aleksandryna Wołowska and Leon Faucher , commissioned by the Society for the Care of Polish Historical Monuments and Graves in France..., n.d.. [2008], pp. 1-7; conc. under the care of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Paris and TOZ (2007).
