Biography:

Parys Filippi (1836-1874), born in Kraków, son of Paolo Filippi, sculptor.

He was educated in Kraków and Munich, and his Kraków studio was an important meeting place for artists and patriotic circles. He was the author of numerous sacred, portrait and tomb sculptures, including those in the Lychakiv Cemetery and the Zakopane parish church.

From 1866, he was active in Lviv, where he taught young sculptors and was involved in the artistic life of the city. He created many busts and medallions of prominent figures, as well as tomb monuments, including Artur Grottger. He died tragically while working as a restorer in Warsaw.
