Monument to the 4th Armoured Regiment "Scorpion" at Monte Cassino

The monument to the 4th Armoured Regiment "Scorpion" at Monte Cassino, is located in the so-called "Throat". The monument is actually a Sherman tank - known as the 'Sultan'. On 12 May 1944, the tank commanded by Second Lieutenant Ludomir Białecki encountered a number of mines, which caused an explosion, the destruction of the vehicle and the death of the entire crew. The design of the memorial was prepared by the artist Ludwik Kuźniarz. The sculptor attached a cross made of tank tracks to the tank wreck, which was supported by two bronze plaques and two bronze scorpions symbolising the "Scorpion" Regiment.
