Monument to Jozef Pilsudski in Ternopil

In Ternopil in 1935, a statue of Józef Piłsudski was unveiled by Apolinary Głowiński. It depicted the Marshal on horseback, the sculpture set on a rectangular plinth. It was over 3.4 metres high in total. The pedestal bore the inscription: "TO THE LEADER OF THE NATION / THE LAND OF PODOLIA". Two smaller statues - of a legionnaire and a soldier of the 54th infantry regiment - were placed next to the plinth. The monumental work was destroyed in 1939 by the Red Army. In the collection of the National Digital Archive there is a photograph of the monument from the archive of the 'Ilustrowany Kurier Codzienny'. The photograph was taken on 11 November 1935, the day the monument was unveiled.
