Monument to poet Vasile Alecsandri in Jassy

The idea to erect a monument to the Romanian poet Vasile Alecsandri in Iaşi came soon after his death, in 1890. The unveiling took place on 15 October 1906. Alecsandri's wife and daughter attended the ceremony, and the event had the character of a national holiday. The monument was realised by Vladimir Hegel. The statue and bas-relief were made of bronze, the pedestal of sandstone. The work is located in front of the Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre.
