Rudolf Modrzejewski (1861-1940), born in Bochnia, son of Gustaw Zimajer and Helena Modrzejewska, engineer. When he was 15, he and his mother emigrated to the United States of America. He went to France to study. There he studied at the National School of Roads and Bridges. In 1885, he returned to the United States. In the same year, he married Felicia Benda in a Polish church in New York. The couple had three children. He worked as an engineer. In 1893, he opened his own design office in Chicago. He built nearly 40 bridges in North America and was a highly regarded engineer. He also made railways, among other things.
