Slavic epic and "Battle of Grunwald" by Alphonse Mucha - polonics for the youngest children

Today I'm going to tell you about an extraordinary artist from the Czech Republic, whose name was Alfons Mucha. 🎨 Although he was known for painting beautiful, ornate Art Nouveau-style paintings full of flowers and delicate lines 🌸, he also created another truly unique work!

This is a series of paintings entitled. "Slavic Epic". 🖼️ This is a series of large paintings telling the story of the Slavic peoples, i.e. people living in countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic or Slovakia. 🇵🇱🇨🇿🇸🇰

Among these paintings is one that depicts the Battle of Grunwald. 🛡️⚔️ This was a very important battle in Polish history, which took place a long time ago, in 1410! In the painting we don't see the battle itself, but what happened afterwards. In the centre stands King Wladyslaw Jagiello 👑, dressed in armour and looking at a field full of knights. In the background you can see an army with flags flying. 🚩

The painting is a bit sad 😢 as it shows the aftermath of war. It shows knights and horses that have fallen in battle. The colours are calm, there are a lot of browns and greys 🌫️, which adds to its seriousness.

But why did Alphonse Mucha paint such a picture? 🤔 He wanted to show the importance of the history and unity of the Slavic peoples. He wanted people to remember their past and be proud of it. ❤️

Now a bit more about the artist himself! 🧔 He was born in 1860 in the small town of Ivančice in the Czech Republic. 🏡 From childhood he loved to draw and paint. Unfortunately, not everything was immediately successful for him. He was not accepted to the art school in Prague 🎨 and the theatre where he worked burned down! 🔥

But he didn't give up! 💪 Thanks to the help of the good Count Karl Khuen-Belassi, he got the chance to go to Munich and then to Paris to study. 🗼 It was hard there too at the beginning, but one day he got a commission for a poster for the play "Gismonda" with the great actress Sarah Bernhardt. 🎭

This poster was a great success! 🌟 It was full of beautiful details, flowers and wonderful colours. People were delighted! 😍 From that moment on, Alphonse Mucha became a famous artist. He started creating posters, paintings and even designed jewellery and furniture! 💍🪑

But his biggest dream was to create something important for his country and for all Slavs. 🤗 That's why he started working on the "Slav Epic". For eighteen years ⏳ he painted huge pictures depicting important events in the history of the Slavs. He wanted people to be proud of their history and culture. 🥰

Unfortunately, after his death in 1939 😔 his works were not always appreciated. For a while the paintings were hidden away and few people could see them. But over time, people began to admire his work again. Now they can be viewed and admired for their beauty! 👀

Alphonse Mucha showed that it's worth having dreams and never giving up! ✨ His paintings are full of magic, history and emotion. Maybe one day you will be able to see them in person? That would be great! 🥳
