Biography:

Stanisław Feliks Mielech (1894-1962), born in the States, son of Jan and Waleria (née Herman), major of the Polish Army, independence activist, footballer and sports journalist.

He was a graduate of the Jagiellonian University, where he completed his law studies, and the Higher School of Intendant.

An alumnus of Polonia Kraków, he went on to play for Wisła Kraków, but his greatest successes came with Cracovia, with whom he won the Polish championship in 1921. He also played for Legia Warszawa. He played two matches for the Polish national team, including the historic first inter-county meeting of the Polish team against Hungary (1921).

During World War I, he fought in the Polish Legions. After regaining independence, he joined the Polish Army, where he reached the rank of major. He held positions in the Ministry of Military Affairs and the Ministry of the Treasury, and in 1939 he became chief inspector of customs in the Free City of Gdańsk. After the outbreak of World War II, he was interned in Hungary and later imprisoned in German camps. He returned to Poland in 1945.

He was a respected sports journalist, associated, among others, with "Kurier Poranny", "Gazeta Polska", "Przegląd Sportowy" and "Życie Warszawy". He published several books on football. He served as vice-president of the Polish Football Association from 1946.

He died on 17 November 1962 in Warsaw. He rests at the Powązki cemetery. In 2018, a plaque commemorating him was unveiled at the Polish Army Stadium.
