Biography:

Stefan Kajetan Walewski (1784-1848), born in Ostrzeszów, son of Stefan Juliusz Walewski, participant in the Great Sejm, opponent of reforms, and Justyna Dziembowska. In 1831, he was granted the right of abode in Paris, and is listed in documents as an officer in the French army, a knight of the Legion of Honour. There is no information about his presence at the Leonore base, and he does not appear in the studies by Łoza. In the monograph by M. Kobierecki "Walewscy herbu Kolumna w XVII-XVIII wieku. Genealogy. Majesty. Public activity', the author mentions him only in a footnote, indicating his date of birth, name Kajetan and informing of his relationship with his wife, the widow of David Humphreys (1752-1818), an American officer who fought for the independence of the United States. The wedding took place on 31 December 1829. After the marriage, the Walewskis moved to Paris, where they were allowed to settle, and on 14 December 1831 Stefan was naturalised under Decree 3664. He was not found in the inventories of the military archives or in the documents of the Legion of Honour. He died on 2 April 1848 in Paris at 9 Rumfort Street, and was buried around 4 April 1848 in the Vassard crypt, with a final burial around 2-12 August 1848 under General 93681.
