Biography:

Tomasz Oskar Sosnowski (1810-1886), born in Nowomalin, son of Stanislaus and Kastylda, sculptor. He studied drawing with Antoni Blank, and sculpture with Paweł Maliński. He then studied in Berlin under Christian Rauch and in Rome in the studio of Pietro Tenerani. In 1843, he settled in Warsaw, but after three years returned to Rome, where he took up the position of professor of sculpture at the Academy of St Luke. He remained outside Poland until the end of his life.
