Ludwig Wolfrum's villa in Usti nad Labem

Informacja o obiekcie:

A five-storey villa built by the son of one of the greatest entrepreneurs from the Hive and a politician, textile company owner Carl Georg Wolfrum. Today ¬ when viewed from Churchill Street¬ the building is characterised by its regular massing and restrained classicist articulation of the façade, with which the high mansard roof is somewhat out of keeping. However, this is hardly an echo of the lavishness that characterised the villa at the time of its construction.

Situated on a slope, the building was erected close to the Protestant church, co-founded by Ludwig Wolfrum. Originally, it was a sumptuous eclectic villa characterised by a picturesque, irregular silhouette, emphasised by a massive tower, which no longer exists today. Similarly, the architectural detailing has disappeared ¬ the classicist detail adorning the risalit on the street side, the neo-baroque window frames and the neo-renaissance gable in the side elevation facing Stroupežnicki Street.

With this historicist mixture of forms, this once one of the most sumptuous villas in Ustě was a good example of the conservative taste of the wealthy German bourgeoisie at the end of the 19th century. This was a world close to the firm of Miksch & Niedzielski in Vienna. This atelier was formed by a pair of colleagues from the architectural practice of the great architect of the historicist era, Heinrich von Ferstl (designer of, among other things, the University and Votive Church erected in the Viennese ring).

The ornate style of Ludwig Wolfrum's villa, however, quickly became obsolete ¬ it was given its present appearance in the 1930s as a result of a conversion commissioned by the next owner, Norbert Dürschmid, who was, by the way, related to the Wolfrums.
After the war the building was used as a kindergarten.

Technical data: brick building.
