Witold Grabowski (1898-1966), born in Batumi. During the Russian Civil War, he fought in Polish units. In 1919, he worked for the Civil Administration of the Eastern Territories of the Minsk district. During the Polish-Bolshevik War, he took part in the defence of Vilnius. In 1922, he graduated in law from Stefan Batory University in Vilnius. After his studies, he worked at the Delegation of the Polish Government to the Government of Central Lithuania and at the Regional State Control Chamber in Vilnius. He was a sub-prosecutor in Vilnius (1926) and Piotrków Trybunalski (1927). In 1928 he became vice-president of the District Court in Warsaw, and in 1930 prosecutor of the Court of Appeal in Warsaw. He was a prosecutor in the Brest trial. From 1936 to 1939, he held the office of Minister of Justice. After the outbreak of war, he found himself in Palestine, where he began his service in the Polish Armed Forces in the West, and later served in the British Army and took part, among others, in the Libya campaign. From 1943 he was part of the British Military Administration (BMA) in Eritrea. From 1943 to 1951 he was President of the Asmara District Court in Eritrea. He then settled in Ethiopia, where he became involved in the country's legal profession. He was a judge and also president of the Criminal Division of the Addis Adeba District Court, participated in the codification of Ethiopian law, and taught at Addis Adeba University. In 1966, he and his wife Irene moved to the United Kingdom.
