In September 1939, the submarines, having suffered damage from Kriegsmarine attacks, successively decided to enter the ports of neutral Sweden: "Sęp" - 17 September, "Ryś" - 18 September "Żbik" - 25 September. The interned ships remained in Sweden until 21 October 1945, when they sailed for the port in Gdynia. Two Polish seamen died during the internment: Master Antoni Mańka (born 26 August 1914, died 31 August 1942) and Pvt. Franciszek Kardacz (b. 5 August 1913, d. 22 May 1945), who were laid to rest in the cemetery in Mariefred. In this plot, burials took place in later years for 13 former Polish sailors from the submarines "Żbik", "Ryś" and "Sęp", who settled in Sweden and died there. In the quarter there is a tombstone surrounded by a metal chain with a commemorative plate bearing a cross, an image of a Polish military eagle and epitaph plates of two sailors buried there. The cemetery also features a plaque with an inscription in Swedish, Polish and English: "To the sailors of the Naval Fleet of the Republic of Poland resting in Sweden who, during the Nazi aggression in 1939, defended their homeland with honour and remained faithful to it until the end of their lives. The Republic of Poland. Warsaw-Stockholm 2004".
