Biography:

Bolesław Statkowski (1825-1898), born in Chvorosna, communications engineer, meteorologist and glaciologist. From 1844 to 1847 he studied at the St Petersburg Institute of the Corps of Communication Engineers. After his studies, he became the head of the 8th Communication District in the Caucasus. In 1857 he travelled in Europe, visiting Switzerland, Belgium and France, as well as the construction of the Mont Cenis and Brenner tunnels in the Alps. On his return to the Caucasus, he developed a project to modernise the Georgian War Road. In later years, he was involved in the design and construction of railway lines in the Caucasus.
