In retaliation for killing a German the previous day, the Germans shot 21 men of Polish nationality on 25 May1942.
. Sixteen were shot in the morning, by the road leading from Vilnius to the town, on a field hill called Dziescinka, near the forestry station and cemetery. They were buried at the place of death.
. The other five Poles were killed in the evening near the forest near Smolarnia. They were: Adam Jabłoński, Witold Jodkowski, Adam Jungnikiel, Stanisław Kot and Adam Lewandowski. They were also buried at the site of their deaths.
. For many years the only commemoration of the grave of the five victims was a wooden cross. In the 1990s the grave was fenced off with a metal fence and a new commemoration was erected. On the pedestal beneath the cross are three plaques - two of which are identical in shape, the third is completely different (probably added later). The inscriptions proclaim: "Here rest the inhabitants of OLKIENIK / shot by the German occupier / on 25 May 1942 / + Jungnikiel Adam + Jabłoński Adam / Jodkowski Witold + Kot Stanisław / + Lewandowski Adam" // "Honour their memory" // "To the Poles murdered / on 25 May 1942 / Eternal rest / racz dać Panie".
