On the night of 19 to 20 June 1940, soldiers of the 2nd Infantry Rifle Division fighting in France crossed the Swiss border. They were interned by the Swiss authorities and stayed there until the end of the war. In the Alpnach Dorf area by the Sarner Aa river stood the barracks of the interned Polish soldiers employed, among other things, to build roads in the area. Old commemorative plaques relating to the work of the Poles on the roads from Alpnach to Ennetmoos and to Siebeneich have been preserved.
There are 5 Polish soldiers buried in the local cemetery, some of whom died in road construction accidents. In accordance with Swiss regulations, these graves were decommissioned after 25 years. A marble plaque was placed on the cemetery wall with 5 plaques containing the personal data of the soldiers, as well as a metal divisional eagle and a brass plaque informing about the construction of roads by interned Poles, Italians and Russians.
The following soldiers are commemorated: stierż. sierż. Bernard Kurzeja, plut. Zygmunt Flinta, st. strz. Julian Goździk, strz. Henryk Kielbratowski, bomb. Henryk Wawrzkiewicz.
The inscription on the plaque reads: "POLEN BAUTEN DIE STRASSEN / NACH ENNETMOOS & ETSCHI / 1939-1945 / INT. ITALIENER, POLEN & RUSSEN / BAUTEN DEN SAUMWEG / HORWELI - Ä LGGÄU - WANGEN" (Poles built roads / to Ennetmoos and Etschi / 1939-1945 / Int. Italians, Poles and Russians / built the road / Horweli - Älggäu - Wängen).
